Initial funding to kick-off the Colorado Trailblazers’ organization and operational plan came from the owners of Alpha Bicycle Company. They graciously entertained the Trailblazers’ request to provide grant funding for tools, trailer and other assets within a strategic plan of constructing more trails in the Buffalo Creek Recreation Area (BCRA) of the Pike National Forest. In concert with this funding a proposal was made to and accepted by Team Evergreen Bicycle Club for volunteer support from their membership. With this support we were able to initiate discussions with S. Platte Ranger District, USDA Forest Service (USFS) for new trail construction projects in the BCRA.
Having leveraged these resources the Trailblazers have continued to successfully develop relationships with federal and county land managers and inspire service contribution from our volunteers in building sustainable non-motorized trails for the public benefit including access by the mountain bike community. Our Directors demonstrate untold hours from their discretionary time toward advancement of the Trailblazers’ mission in planning, coordinating with land managers and trail day execution.
